Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We highly recommend Coastal, but Tremaine in particular has always done a great job when doing the treatments for our house. He's incredibly thorough and pays close attention to the issues we describe. Not sure if you can request a specific technician, but if Tremaine happens to be the one that shows up, you should feel confident that he'll do excellent work.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Mr. Cedric is amazing and keeps our home pest free. He always has a kind word and listens to our "pest" concerns. My kids believe spiders, ants and rollie-pollies belong outside and with his handwork that is where they remain. Thank you.

Portsmouth is one of Virginia’s most historic cities, known for its waterfront location, established neighborhoods, and older housing stock. While that character adds charm, it can also create unique pest challenges that require experience and a local understanding of the area.

At Coastal Pest Control, we’ve proudly served Portsmouth and the greater Hampton Roads area since 1993. With a centrally located local office, our technicians regularly service Portsmouth neighborhoods and are familiar with the construction styles, moisture conditions, and seasonal pest pressures common throughout the city.

A Historic Waterfront City

Portsmouth’s identity is closely tied to its maritime and military heritage. The Norfolk Naval Shipyard, despite its name, is located in Portsmouth and has played a major role in the city’s economy and workforce for generations. The shipyard has long influenced surrounding neighborhoods and reinforced Portsmouth’s strong connection to naval operations.

The city’s location along the Elizabeth River also shapes daily life and housing conditions. Properties near the waterfront often experience higher humidity and moisture levels, which can contribute to increased pest activity in crawl spaces, basements, and older structures.

Portsmouth also maintains a strong sense of community through local traditions such as the annual Seawall Festival, held in the historic Port Norfolk area and celebrating the city’s waterfront roots. Family-friendly attractions like the Portsmouth Children’s Museum reflect ongoing investment in downtown and waterfront districts and help define Portsmouth’s community-focused character.

Pest Control Challenges in Portsmouth

Due to its age, layout, and proximity to the water, Portsmouth properties often face pest issues related to structure and moisture. We commonly treat:

Ant infestations in older foundations
Cockroaches
Moisture-related pests in crawl spaces
Seasonal invaders during weather changes
Rodent activity near waterfront and residential areas

Our treatments are designed to address these conditions with targeted, preventative solutions rather than one-size-fits-all applications.

Serving Neighborhoods Throughout Portsmouth

Portsmouth is made up of many well-established neighborhoods, each with its own layout and housing characteristics. We provide pest control services throughout the city, including:

Olde Towne
Churchland
Port Norfolk
Cradock
Truxton
Shea Terrace
Sterling Point
Westhaven

Whether you live in a historic district, a residential subdivision, or near the waterfront, our technicians understand the local conditions that influence pest activity.

Residential & Commercial Pest Control in Portsmouth

We provide dependable pest control services for a wide range of properties, including:

Single-family homes
Duplexes and rental properties
Condos and townhomes
Offices and small commercial buildings

Many Portsmouth homeowners and property managers choose our quarterly pest control programs to maintain consistent, year-round protection.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pest Control in Portsmouth, VA

Why do older Portsmouth homes tend to have more pest issues?
Many Portsmouth neighborhoods feature older homes with crawl spaces, brick foundations, and original construction materials. These features can allow moisture intrusion and entry points for pests if not properly maintained, making routine pest control especially important.

Do waterfront areas in Portsmouth experience different pest pressures?
Yes. Homes near the river and surrounding waterways often experience higher humidity and moisture levels, which can contribute to ants, roaches, and other moisture-related pests.

How often should pest control be performed in Portsmouth?
Most Portsmouth homeowners benefit from a quarterly pest control program to maintain consistent protection throughout the year. Seasonal changes and coastal humidity can cause pest activity to fluctuate if treatments are not maintained.

Do you service historic districts like Olde Towne Portsmouth?
Yes. We regularly service historic neighborhoods and understand the unique considerations involved with older construction, including crawl spaces, tight access areas, and preservation-friendly treatment approaches.

Can pest control help with preventative issues, not just active infestations?
Absolutely. Preventative pest control is one of the most effective ways to reduce future infestations by addressing entry points, moisture conditions, and seasonal activity before problems develop.
